I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER!!!
What did you do during your vacation time?  Where did you go? What did you eat? Who do you go with? were some of the questions that I asked to my students....I took advantage of the famous subject “Holy week”,  and at the same time I could assess how much did they know about the topic to be developed. As I imagine, some of them were capable to share their experiences using the correct tense of the verbs...some others were not, but that conversation allowed me to present the topic.

As warm up I used a mini short story in which they had to find out and underline as many verbs in past tense as possible. We started by reading it together, and the command was that if  they found a verb in the past tense, they had to say VERB as a manner of alert, and we will repeat the pronunciation of the verb, the activity went well and I introduced them the topic which was Simple Past Tense in a different way, not with a game.

After that, I started my class by showing them a big chart with the corresponding Grammar explanation for the Simple past tense of the verbs. They could observe the meaning of “PAST”, how we can use it and some other information. On the other hand, I  included 2 different form of sentences, one in which you mention the specific time when you are talking about something, for example : “Yesterday I went to the park”  It is explicit the time you went “yesterday” ; but, there is another way to mention the simple past tense without the word, eg. : Monica danced with her friends at the party. (The simple past is implicit but not with an extra information) So, the key word is “The tense of the verb”.

D A N C E D

As I said before, some of them are really focus when the teacher is explaining the grammar part, and for sure they are the ones that can answer, and ask for doubts!!!!

I also included 3 different clues for them to know how to use the simple past tense in the regular form through the addition of “d” or “ed”. They helped me a lot working in the board, then they had a practice and in that nice way I concluded my third participation for this period!!!!
As in previous classes, I can share with you the feeling of satisfaction that you obtain when you are sure that you gave the best from you, it doesn´t matter if sometimes things don´t go in the way you want…we´re not perfects!!! But, the attitude, effort and willingness you bring for each class will set the difference in your Students!!!!
Good luck my dear friends for the Third Period…and remember that we´re about to reach one of our dreams!!!!

  2. Hy, Sara i really like all the activities you used to introduced the topic to your students. You were assessing their previous knowledge without them noticing it. And in that way they must have felt free to talk as you were asking them questions that included real life events.
For sure, it feels good to know that you have reached the objectives of the class and is even better when you see the students using the structure studied (simple past). As you say girl, we are about to get to the peak, first God we will do it, So let´s keep on working hard...
    Nicely done Sara!!

  3. Hello my dear friend!!!!!
As Mary was mentioning, starting the class with what we called "greeting" help us somehow to check their moods, previous knowledge, dispossition to the class, etc etc etc...
With the activities you presented and the explanation you gave, it was enough for them to understand the topic. This group is really tricky, as you remember the impressions they caused on us.

  4. Greeting! What a good way to start. It helps students feel part of the group. Explaining before the activities is very good since you prepare your students to do what you expect them to do. Your activities were very cool, and I may take one of them next time. Keep up with the good job! Cheers Jarita!

  5. How is everything cicada???
Once more we can behold that playing is not the only way to teach. You can develope different types of activities that can catch students's attention. It is not necessary to move around and laugh to help students to learn.
I liked the warm up and how you introduced the topic. Nice ideas and nice topic as well.
Congratulations Jarita....It's about to finish! :)

  6. Hello Dear friend! I love the way you gave the class. You took advantage of the last week, and I think it functioned a lot because most of the time people want to share what amazing thing they do the last vacations, so as I could read your students enjoyed the class, and that's an adventage and satisfaction for us as teachers.

I like the way that you present the grammar part because you taught them the different ways to use the Simple Past Tense since the very beginning.

I know that you are a person who gives the best from you in everything, That's why I want to congratatulate you becauca the effort that you put on everything!

    Blessings my Dear friend!

  7. hey what up Sarita! let me tell you I see a lot of profesionalism in you. I really like those types of warm up. The other activities went well; it can be seen you took into account the characteristics of your group. In adition, you involved as many senses as you coul, and that is pretty fine Sarita. It's cool to know there will be teachers like you. keep working hard!!
